Madrid has no shortage of jewellery shops, particularly in Salamanca, where traditional jewellers sit alongside some of the biggest names in luxury. But finding someone to create a piece from scratch, with your ideas and your story at its centre, is a different experience.
At Maison Lipowa, we design bespoke fine jewellery for people who want something a little more personal. That might mean an engagement ring that feels different from the usual designs, a piece inspired by a place you love, or a new design incorporating a stone that has been in your family for generations.
You don't need to arrive with a finished design in mind. Often, the most interesting pieces begin with a conversation.
From an idea to a finished piece
Every bespoke project starts by getting to know you, what you have in mind and what you want the finished piece to feel like. We talk through your ideas, references and inspirations, gradually developing a design that brings them together.
Choosing the stones is an important part of this process. Whether you're drawn to a particular gemstone, have a specific colour in mind or are working with a stone you already own, we'll help you explore the options and find the right fit for your design.
Once we've established the direction, we begin working on the form of the piece. Depending on the design, this may involve shaping wax by hand or developing a CAD model to explore the proportions and details before production. These stages allow us to refine the design and consider how it will look and feel when worn, not just how it appears on paper.
The aim is to create something that feels considered from every angle, with the materials, proportions and smallest details working together. A bespoke piece should feel natural to the person wearing it, rather than simply being a variation on something already available.
Bespoke engagement rings and personalised fine jewellery
Engagement rings are a natural starting point for many of our clients. Some are looking for an alternative engagement ring with an unusual gemstone or a less conventional setting. Others have a clearer idea of what they want but haven't found the right combination of stone, metal and design.
Beyond engagement rings, bespoke jewellery offers the opportunity to create pieces for all sorts of reasons: marking an important occasion, reworking inherited jewellery, celebrating a personal milestone or simply making something you've wanted for years.
Jewellery remodelling is another option if you have pieces that no longer suit your style. An inherited ring or a collection of unworn jewellery may contain stones or materials worth incorporating into a new design. Rather than leaving them in a box, you can explore ways to give them a different life while retaining a connection to their history.
We are particularly interested in the idea of contemporary heirlooms: jewellery designed for modern life that can still hold meaning for years to come. That doesn't have to mean a traditional design. Sometimes a more personal piece is one that breaks with convention altogether.
Working with a jewellery atelier in Madrid
Maison Lipowa is based in Madrid, Spain, where we welcome clients for in-person bespoke jewellery consultations. Working directly with a designer gives you the opportunity to discuss your ideas, ask questions and make decisions throughout the process.
We also work with clients across Spain, Poland and other European countries, as well as internationally. If you're not based in Madrid, we can arrange virtual consultations to discuss your project and guide you through the design process remotely.
Whether you're commissioning custom engagement rings, personalised gold jewellery or a one-of-a-kind piece for a special occasion, the process begins in much the same way: with an idea and a conversation about what matters to you.
Start your bespoke jewellery project
If you're considering bespoke jewellery in Madrid or would like to commission a piece from elsewhere in Spain, Poland or Europe, we'd love to hear what you have in mind.
You don't need to have every detail figured out before getting in touch. A reference image, a gemstone you've fallen in love with or even a vague idea of what you're looking for is enough to start the conversation.
Contact us at nl@maisonlipowa.com to tell us a little about your project. We'll arrange an initial call to discuss your ideas and explain how we can bring them to life.
